Next Generation Sequencing and Its Role in Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Epidemiology
Abstract
Next generation sequencing (NGS) is a trend setting molecular technology which has made whole genome sequencing of polymicrobial samples in a single run.
The obtained genomic data has significantly helped in molecular epidemiology, molecular characterization of resistant micro orgainisms, out breaks information and genomic data build up. The NGS offers variety of platforms for sequencing, yielding genomic data in terabites. The bioinformatics tools futher ease in interpretaion of data into meaningful information. Over the last decade, bacterial genomics has flourished leaps and bounds on account of NGS techniques.
